George Washington University, commonly known as GWU or GW, is a world-renowned private comprehensive university in the United States, located in the capital city of Washington, D.C. It is adjacent to the U.S. Department of State, the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund, and is even just a few blocks away from the White House.
Before coming here, I always thought it would be a kind of boring and tasteless urban culture, with government departments everywhere that only exist in news movies. Like what is shown in the American TV series “House of Cards”, there are conspiracies, solemnity, and vigilance.
However, after arriving at GWU, I found it to be clean and leisurely, with many beautiful and interesting places. Although it is a metropolis, it does not have the noisy atmosphere that makes students feel uneasy. On the contrary, the campus is secluded.
Why did you choose this school
I didn’t major in accounting or even business in my undergraduate studies. After making up my mind to switch majors, I began to observe which schools were willing to accept students without an accounting background. I ultimately chose GWU, partly because its curriculum is relatively basic and comprehensive, allowing me to learn accounting knowledge well (however, for students who have already studied accounting in their undergraduate studies, the excessive basic courses may feel like they are learning the same things again, which may make them feel that the tuition is a waste, so it depends on individual needs), and also because of its location, alumni resources, and other factors. GWU is a well-balanced school in terms of location, academic level, and alumni resources. My classmates also have strong backgrounds, including students from Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Jiao Tong University, and many others who gave up opportunities at top universities such as the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the University of Rochester to come here (of course, they are all top students). In my experience over the past year, I believe this choice was the right one.
